If ever there was a chance to learn about the challenges and pitfalls of filmmaking it is at Fearless Tales 2005. From a Question and Answer session to one of the greatest directors in history (John Landis) to long-established filmmakers such as Ulli Lommel, Jeff Burr and Matt Cimber – Fearless Tales offers a depth of experience that can only serve to enlighten.

First Time Filmmakers

However, the festival is also proud to showcase work by first time filmmaker Tim Sullivan – whose 2001 Maniacs is a sure-fire hit waiting to happen – and many other independent filmmakers.

In attendance for the US premiere of his shocker Don’t Look Back at 6pm on Thursday the 30th March at the Castro Theatre will be British director Nicholas Sherard. Don’t Look Back cost approx. US $2.5million to produce – and this slick little horror film is sure to impress.

Also on the independent terror front – Saturday the 2nd brings director Mike Costanza and glamorous star Stephanie Dees to the Victoria Theatre for a showing of their highly acclaimed real-time thriller The Collingswood Story at 2.15pm. Sure to be the next Blair Witch Project, when Anchor Bay un-leash it Stateside later in 2005, this is a chance to pitch questions at the filmmaker and star. Actress Dees may be familiar from her role in Sam Raimi’s The Gift as well.

Also on Saturday the 2nd, but this time at the Castro Theatre, is Sirens of the 23rd Century – a 35mm futuristic schloker, and Bay Area director Jennifer Kroot – along with selected cast members – will be present.

All Day Q and As on Sunday the 3rd April

On Sunday the 3rd April, the world premiere of The Legend of Crazy George takes place at 2.30pm at the Victoria Theatre – with director George Furman in attendance for a Q and A. The film stars popular Scream Queen Debbie Rochon – and is well worth seeing for this reason alone! Following this will be Red Cockroaches, a critic’s choice at many international film festivals, and director Miguel Covula will be there. Then, at 7.30pm, comes The Curse of El Charro – packed full of familiar horror names such as Andrew “Leatherface” Brynarski, Danny “From Duck ‘til Dawn” Trejo and Motorhead’s Lemmy. Director Rich Ragsdale will be with us for this screening. Finally comes Bloodline at 10pm and, you guessed it, we’ll have the directors there to answer your questions.

With so much happening at Fearless Tales 2005 – how can you possibly resist?
